Victoria General Hospital is at 1 Hospital Way in View Royal, a western suburb just outside downtown Victoria. The easiest way to get there from downtown is BC Transit route 14, which has the hospital as its western end, or a taxi if you want a direct ride. Check the trip planner for the next bus.
Route 14 from downtown
Route 14 runs between the University of Victoria and Victoria General Hospital, and it passes through Downtown Victoria, Victoria West, Esquimalt and View Royal. BC Transit lists it as a frequent route, with buses every 15 minutes or better from 7 am to 7 pm Monday to Friday. Evenings and weekends are less frequent, so look at the timetable for your travel time.
Other routes, including the 22 and the 39, are also listed as serving the hospital. Because the hospital is the end of the line for route 14, staying on until the last stop is the simple rule. Enter your downtown stop and the hospital in the BC Transit trip planner for departure times, and check the service alerts on the same page on the day you travel.
By cab or rideshare
A taxi is the most direct way to the hospital, especially if you are unwell, carrying equipment or travelling with someone who has limited mobility. Victoria taxi covers the downtown pickup, and the taxi fare estimator gives a rough idea of the fare. Ride hailing is another route, and the Uber calculator lets you compare. Tell the driver which entrance you need, such as emergency or the main doors.
Arriving from outside Victoria
Visitors from the mainland can take BC Ferries to Vancouver Island, then continue by road. Look up the sailing schedule and fares on the BC Ferries site for your date, and plan the last leg by bus or cab.
For parking, directions, visiting hours and entrance details, the Island Health website is the best source, since arrangements at hospitals change. If the trip is urgent and you cannot safely travel by yourself, call 911 instead of arranging a ride.
