This is an independent guide to taxis and rideshare on Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver. It lists taxi companies and apps with phone numbers and what we know about their prices, estimates fares for 297 common trips, and answers the questions riders ask before they book.
What this site is not
We are not a taxi company and we do not dispatch cars, so we cannot book or track a ride. We are not affiliated with Oceanside Taxi or any other company we list, and we have no relationship with Uber or Lyft. Uber is a trademark of Uber Technologies, Inc. When you need a car, call the company you picked or open the app.
How companies get on the lists
A company is listed when we can find it on its own website, in a tourism or municipal directory or on a business listing. No company pays to be listed or to be placed higher. At the moment the site lists 55 companies and apps in nine areas.
Every company page says where its details come from and when we last checked them. When we could not confirm a phone number or a price from the company itself, the page says so. Where a company publishes its meter rates, we show them as written.
Where the numbers in the calculators come from
The Uber and taxi estimates use average rates, regional minimum fares and published tariffs, and they are always estimates. The method is explained on how we calculate, and the underlying data can be downloaded from the taxi fares in BC page.
Who writes it
The pages are written and checked by the site’s editorial team. We write for riders, not for search engines, and we update a page when something changes. Rules about taxis in British Columbia come from the Passenger Transportation Board.
Corrections
If a phone number is out of date, a price looks wrong or a company is missing, tell us. Every page has a Found a mistake button that opens the contact form with the page address filled in. We check what you send, correct the page and update its date. You can also use the contact page directly.
