The Justice Institute of British Columbia has its main campus in New Westminster, and the easiest way to get there from downtown Vancouver is usually by transit, with a taxi as the simpler choice if you carry gear or arrive on a tight schedule. Before you leave, confirm which JIBC campus your course or appointment is actually at.
Which JIBC campus are you heading to?
JIBC lists its main campus at 715 McBride Boulevard in New Westminster. The institute also runs sites in Chilliwack, the Okanagan, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and on Vancouver Island, and each has its own page on the JIBC website. Training sessions are sometimes held at a site other than the main one, so check the address on your confirmation email or course page and use that as your destination.
Getting there by transit
TransLink runs the SkyTrain, buses and other services in Metro Vancouver. Enter your downtown starting point and the campus address in the TransLink trip planner, set your arrival time and let it show the current options, including any bus connection for the last stretch. Stops, transfers and travel times are set by TransLink and change with service updates, so rely on the planner on the day you travel rather than on a fixed trip time.
Taxi or rideshare from downtown
A taxi takes you straight to the campus door without transfers, which helps when you carry training equipment, uniforms or luggage, or when several people travel together. Give the driver the full street address of the campus you are visiting. To get a rough idea of the cost before you book, try the taxi fare estimator, and for local cab companies see the Vancouver taxi page.
Cycling
Cycling is possible, but the distance is long enough that you should plan the whole route in advance. Use a cycling map or the cycling layer of a navigation app to pick bike lanes and quieter streets, and check the route for your own skill level. Bring lights, lock your bike at the campus racks if available, and allow time to change clothes if your day starts with a class or a meeting.
Whichever way you travel, look up your arrival time the evening before. Early classes at a campus outside the downtown core can be hard to reach if you rely on the first services of the morning.
