How to get from Kitsilano to UBC?

2 min read Updated

From Kitsilano, the quickest bus link to UBC is the 99 B-Line along Broadway, with the 4, 44 and 84 as options along West 4th Avenue. Cycling the shoreline is the scenic alternative.

Buses from Kitsilano to the UBC loop

The 99 B-Line is an express service between UBC and Commercial-Broadway Station. During weekday peak hours the wait is only a few minutes, so you rarely need a timetable. The catch is that it runs on Broadway, so from the heart of Kitsilano you may need a short walk or a connection to reach a stop.

The 84 UBC / VCC-Clark is a limited stop route along 4th Avenue and Chancellor Boulevard. The 4 and the 44 also use West 4th, and the 4 and 14 run toward downtown and the beach area. Which of these is best depends on your starting street, so enter the address in the TransLink trip planner and use its live departure times.

Fares

Fares and zones on TransLink change from time to time. The TransLink website lists the current price, and a tap with a Compass Card or contactless card is the usual way to pay.

Riding to UBC by bike

The most popular scenic route starts at Vanier Park and follows the shoreline past Kitsilano Beach, Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks, and continues to the university. It is mostly flat along the water.

The Arbutus Greenway is a separate path. It runs between Kitsilano and Marpole, so it is handy for travel south, not as a direct line to UBC. For this trip the shoreline is the better pick.

Taking a taxi to campus

A taxi suits early mornings, late nights, or days with luggage or a bulky instrument. See the Vancouver taxi page for booking, and the taxi fare estimator for a rough cost.

Once at UBC the campus is large, so check which building you need and which bus loop is closest. The UBC campus maps show building locations and the nearest stops.
