The easiest way from downtown Vancouver to the BCIT Burnaby campus is to use TransLink, with SkyTrain and a connecting bus, and to plan the exact trip in the TransLink trip planner. By road the trip is about 22 kilometres and 35 minutes for the route in our own data, though rush hour can change that.
Getting to 3700 Willingdon Avenue by transit
BCIT’s Burnaby campus is at 3700 Willingdon Avenue, at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Canada Way, just off the Trans-Canada Highway. BCIT sends visitors to TransLink to plan a transit route, so that is the place to build your trip. Enter your downtown starting point and the campus address, and the planner will show the SkyTrain line, any transfer, the bus and the walking portion with times for your travel day.
Check service notices on the day, especially for early morning classes or an evening event, since SkyTrain and bus schedules change with the time of day and with maintenance.
Driving and parking at the campus
BCIT says the Burnaby campus has five visitor parking lots, all with paid parking available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The school has an interactive parking map, so look at it first and choose the lot nearest to the building you need. BCIT sets the rates and rules and can change them, so confirm them on the BCIT site.
The campus is divided into four quadrants, northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast, and building names follow their location. Once you arrive, the interactive campus map helps you find the right door, which is worth doing before a first visit.
Taxi and rideshare from downtown
For a late class, heavy gear or a tight schedule, a taxi is the direct choice, door to door with no transfers. Book through Vancouver taxi, and use the Uber calculator to compare a rideshare with a metered fare before you decide.
Whichever way you go, leave extra time at the weekday peaks.
