The simplest way from downtown Vancouver to UBC Botanical Garden is an express bus to the UBC campus, then the 68 campus shuttle to Stadium Road, opposite the garden. By road the trip is about 11 km and 25 minutes to the UBC campus.
Express bus to UBC, then the 68
The R4, 44, 84 and 99 express buses run directly to the Vancouver campus. Once there, the 68 UBC Exchange campus shuttle stops on Stadium Road opposite the garden and returns to the trolley loop on University Boulevard. The R4 41st Avenue bus also helps: it stops on West 16th Avenue near University Hill High School, and the garden is about a 15 minute walk from there.
Open the TransLink trip planner to see which of these buses leaves from your downtown stop and when. Tap a Compass Card or contactless card when you board.
Driving to Marine Drive
The garden is at 6804 SW Marine Drive. From downtown, drivers can take West 4th, 10th or 16th Avenue toward UBC. Parking is next to the main entrance, paid by meter or the UBC Parking app. The garden’s page lists the rate at $2.25 an hour or $7 for the day until closing, though rates can change, so check the current figure before you go.
Cycling out to Point Grey
The ride from downtown is long and mostly west, so it suits confident cyclists. Use a map app set to cycling for the current bike routes and any closures. Lock up near the entrance when you arrive.
Taxi to the garden gate
A cab saves the transfer and drops you near the entrance, which helps if you carry a picnic or travel with children. The taxi fare estimator gives a rough fare, and the Vancouver taxi page lists local companies for the ride back.
Before you leave, check the garden’s hours and admission on its own site. Seasonal opening times differ, and a quick look avoids a locked gate.
