How to get from Downtown Vancouver to Port Moody?

2 min read Updated

The simplest way from downtown Vancouver to Port Moody is SkyTrain to Moody Centre Station, which sits on the Millennium Line in the middle of Port Moody. By road it is about 25 km and 40 minutes, longer in rush hour.

SkyTrain and West Coast Express to Moody Centre

Moody Centre opened in December 2016 as part of the Evergreen Extension. It is on the Millennium Line, and it also has West Coast Express commuter trains, with an overhead walkway linking the two platforms. The West Coast Express runs from Waterfront Station along the south shore of Vancouver Harbour, but it is a commuter service with a limited timetable, so check its schedule on the TransLink website before planning around it. For SkyTrain, use the TransLink trip planner to see which stations to change at from where you start.

Buses leave from the station too: routes 160, 180, 181, 182, 183 and 184, plus HandyDART. The N9 NightBus stops next to the station on St Johns Street.

Transit fares depend on zones and the payment method. Current prices for Compass Card and tap payment are on the TransLink site, so check there rather than relying on an old figure.

Driving to Port Moody

Plan on about 25 km and 40 minutes in normal conditions, with extra time at the peak hours when traffic backs up on the way east. A navigation app with live traffic gives the best estimate on the day.

Moody Centre has a park and ride with 393 spaces. For parking in the town centre, look at the City of Port Moody website for current lots, meters and rates.

Taking a taxi east

A taxi helps late at night, when trains are less frequent, or when you are heading to a spot away from the station. The taxi fare estimator shows a rough cost for the distance, and the Vancouver taxi page lists city pickups.
