The simplest way from downtown Nanaimo to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is BC Transit route 30, which runs between downtown and the hospital by way of Bowen Road. A taxi or car also works. The hospital is at 1200 Dufferin Crescent.
Route 30 from downtown
Route 30, labelled NRGH, serves downtown Nanaimo, Bowen Road, the hospital, the Northfield area, Country Club Exchange, Metral Drive and Woodgrove Exchange. That makes it the direct option for most visitors.
Frequency and the first and last trips change by day and season. Open the BC Transit trip planner, enter your starting stop and the hospital, and it will show the next departure and the stop to get off. Service is lighter on weekends and holidays, so check before a morning appointment.
Driving to Dufferin Crescent
If you drive, enter 1200 Dufferin Crescent in a navigation app. Road work and detours happen around the Bowen Road corridor from time to time, and the app will show the current best route.
Parking at the hospital is paid, so check the Island Health page for the hospital for current rates and permit options before you go. Leave extra time to find a space and walk in, particularly for an appointment you cannot be late for.
Taking a taxi from the city centre
A cab is often easier when someone is unwell, tired after treatment or using a mobility aid, because it drops you close to the entrance. Local operators are listed on the Nanaimo taxi page, and the taxi fare estimator gives a rough fare for the trip. If you are heading to the emergency department, tell the driver so they can use the right entrance.
For visiting hours and department locations inside the building, check the Island Health website for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
