Point Roberts is reached by road through the Point Roberts and Boundary Bay border crossing, which is the only land crossing. The peninsula lies about 35 kilometres south of downtown Vancouver, so the drive is short and the border is what sets the timing.
The Boundary Bay crossing
On the Canadian side the road to the crossing is 56th Street in Delta. On the US side it becomes Tyee Drive. Do not head for the Peace Arch crossing in Surrey and Blaine, because that takes you onto the Washington mainland, far from the peninsula. Point Roberts is cut off from the rest of the state by Canadian territory, which is why this crossing exists at all.
Everyone in the vehicle needs valid travel documents for the US, and you should expect the same questions as at any border post. Check current requirements with US Customs and Border Protection before you go, and look at the posted wait times for the crossing. Delays vary by day and season, and summer weekends tend to be the busiest.
Ferries do not help here
Tsawwassen is nearby, but BC Ferries sailings from there go to Swartz Bay, the Southern Gulf Islands and Duke Point, not to Point Roberts. A temporary passenger ferry linked the peninsula with Blaine and Bellingham during the pandemic, and it ended in August 2021. Plan on the road crossing.
Coming back to Canada
Returning means clearing Canadian customs at the same crossing. Carry the same documents you used going out, and add margin to any appointment or ferry booking you have on the Canadian side. Waits can build on holiday weekends and when many residents are crossing for supplies.
