How to get from Vancouver to Harrison Hot Springs?

2 min read Updated

The usual way from Vancouver to Harrison Hot Springs is to drive Highway 1 east to the Bridal Falls area, then take Highway 9 north into the village. The Highway 9 section is only about 15.6 kilometres, so most of the trip is the Fraser Valley stretch of the main highway.

The route in two parts

Stay on Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley until you reach the Highway 9 interchange near Bridal Falls. Highway 9 then crosses the Fraser River on the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge and shares a short stretch with Highway 7 through Agassiz. It ends at Esplanade Avenue in Harrison Hot Springs, which is the lakefront street, so you arrive right at the water.

Weekends in summer bring heavy traffic to the valley, and the last stretch into the village can back up on sunny days. Leaving earlier in the morning helps. Check DriveBC before you go for any roadwork or incidents.

Parking by the lake

Parking near the Esplanade is in demand on warm weekends. Rules, time limits and any fees are set by the village, so read the posted signs where you park and look at the Village of Harrison Hot Springs website for current details. Arriving before midday gives you the best chance of finding a spot close to the beach.

Without a car

No boat service connects Vancouver to the village, so the choices are road based. Coach and shuttle services to the Fraser Valley change from year to year, and a connection to Harrison may involve a transfer. Check the current schedules and the final leg from the operators before planning around a bus, and confirm how you will get from the stop to the lake.

For a door to door option, a taxi or booked ride works for a day trip. The taxi fare estimator helps you judge what a long ride might cost, and Vancouver taxi handles pickups on the Vancouver end. Ask about the return leg when you book, because village pickups can be harder to arrange at short notice.

Planning the day

  • Check DriveBC for conditions on Highway 1 and Highway 9.
  • Bring layers, as the lake breeze can be cooler than the valley.
  • Pick a return time before you leave, since the evening drive back is busy on weekends.
