From Kerrisdale to downtown Vancouver the usual plan is a bus to a Canada Line station, then the train north. The bus is the slower leg, so the fastest trip depends on which part of Kerrisdale you start in.
Bus to the Canada Line
The R4 41st Ave RapidBus runs along 41st Avenue between UBC and Joyce-Collingwood Station. Oakridge-41st Avenue Station on the Canada Line sits at West 41st Avenue and Cambie Street, which is on that corridor. Take the R4 east from Kerrisdale and change to the train there.
From Oakridge-41st the Canada Line runs north through King Edward, Broadway-City Hall, Olympic Village, Yaletown-Roundhouse and Vancouver City Centre to Waterfront. Marine Drive Station is also on the line, a few stops south of Oakridge-41st, but it is the wrong direction for downtown from most of Kerrisdale.
TransLink route 16 runs between Arbutus and 29th Avenue Station, and route 17 runs from Marine Drive Station up Oak Street into downtown. Which one is practical depends on your starting street, so enter the address in the TransLink trip planner. It gives the stop, the transfer and the departures for the day you travel.
Cycling the Arbutus corridor
Many riders head east to the Arbutus Greenway and follow it north toward False Creek. The grades are gentle by Vancouver standards, but check the City of Vancouver cycling map for the current connections into the downtown bike network before you set out.
Driving, parking and cabs
Granville Street and Cambie Street are the two main routes toward downtown from this side of the city. Both slow down at rush hour, so a live traffic app helps. Parking downtown varies by block and by garage, and rates and meter hours change, so read the posted signs or check the garage operator’s website.
