The cheapest way from Victoria International Airport to Sidney is a BC Transit bus. A taxi or rental car is faster and goes straight to your door. The airport is on the Saanich Peninsula, so Sidney is a short trip north.
BC Transit from the airport to Sidney
The airport’s own ground transportation page lists BC Transit routes 70, 72, 87 and 88 as the buses that serve YYJ, linking it with downtown Victoria, Swartz Bay and the Saanich Peninsula. Pick the one that goes to Sidney in the BC Transit trip planner, since routes and stops are adjusted from time to time. The airport lists a $3.00 fare for trips to Sidney and Saanichton, with higher fares for most of Greater Victoria. Check the current price before you travel.
Late and early flights have another option. A newer service, Route 72A, links Swartz Bay, the airport and downtown Victoria in the early morning and late at night. It began on September 8, 2026, at regular fares. Swartz Bay trips run late in the evening, so a night arrival is easier to handle than it used to be, but the times are few, and the BC Transit page is the place to read them.
Taxi and rideshare at YYJ
Taxis wait at the curb across from arrivals, at the Short Term Lot. Yellow Cab is listed there, and accessible vehicles can be reserved ahead. Uber has marked pickup spots along the same curb. Renting a car
Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty and National have counters in the arrivals area. Alamo and Enterprise are off airport, and you arrange pickup at the end of the arrivals hall ahead of time. A car is useful if you plan to see more of the peninsula, the ferry terminal or the gardens nearby.
