A standard rideshare from Horseshoe Bay to Cypress Mountain costs about $46 at normal demand, and the likely range is $40 to $53. The trip is 25 km and takes about 35 minutes.
Where the $46 comes from
These numbers are calculated from average rates, so treat them as an estimate and not an Uber price. Only the app can show the real upfront price for your pickup.
Inputs are a $2.50 base, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking charge. The distance adds $28.75 and the time adds $12.25. Together with the base fare, that is $43.50 before the booking fee.
The $2.00 booking fee then lifts it to about $46. At this length the per km charge is the largest part of the bill, followed by the time charge, so a longer route or slower trip changes the total more than the fixed fees do.
Busy times and larger cars
When demand is busy, the estimate is about $54. Very busy brings it to about $67, and a peak surge can push it to about $89.
Comfort is about $56, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $65 and Premier is about $100. The XL makes sense for a group, since splitting the fare may cost each person less than two separate cars.
Metered taxi cost for 25 km
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi have a published flag fee of $3.75 and a $2.18 charge per km. At 25 km the meter would show about $58. That leaves out waiting time and extras, so the fare you pay may be higher.
Phone numbers are handy if the app shows no cars. Vancouver Taxi is 604-871-1111, Yellow Cab Vancouver is 604-681-1111 and MacLure’s Cabs is 604-831-1111. Each lists wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Before you head to a mountain
This is a fairly long ride for a rideshare, so check the app first to see whether drivers are showing nearby. Share your exact pickup address, and tell the driver if you have skis, a snowboard or other bulky gear.
Leave extra time if you have to be somewhere at a set hour. Prices tend to rise when many people want a car together, and the same is true at the end of a day out. Open the app a bit early, and keep a taxi number saved in case the wait is long.
If you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, book by phone before the day you travel. Taxi companies can tell you whether a driver is free for the time you need, and that is harder to learn from an app.
