Plan on about 30 minutes in the car from Dundarave to Cypress Mountain. The distance is 20 km, and a standard rideshare costs about $38 at normal demand. The likely range is $34 to $44.
Adding up the Dundarave fare
This is our own calculation from average rideshare rates. It is not an Uber price, and the app will show the real upfront figure.
The rate card is $2.50 base fare, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking fee. Twenty kilometres adds $23.00, and thirty minutes adds $10.50. With the base fare that makes $36.00, and the booking fee lifts it to about $38.
A good part of that is the per minute charge, so a slower trip costs a little more even though the distance stays the same. The booking fee is a flat $2.00 and does not grow with the length of the ride.
Busy-time prices for the Cypress trip
A busy period moves the estimate to about $45. At very busy times, expect about $56. At peak, it can reach about $74, close to twice the normal price.
Bigger vehicles follow the same pattern. Comfort is about $47, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $54 and Premier is about $83. If you are carrying skis, boards or several bags, the XL is worth pricing, though you should ask the driver whether your gear will fit before you set off.
Taxi, and what to do before you go
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi list the same flag fee, $3.75, with $2.18 charged per km. Over the 20 km, expect a meter reading near $47. Neither waiting time nor extras are counted in that meter figure.
For a phone quote, try Vancouver Taxi at 604-871-1111 or Yellow Cab Vancouver at 604-681-1111. Both list wheelchair accessible vehicles, airport rides and app booking.
Because Cypress Mountain is a ski and outdoor destination, a few general habits help. Put the full address in the app instead of a pin, and watch for the driver’s message about where to meet. Allow extra time at busy hours, since a car may take longer to reach you and the meter or the app price may be higher by then.
Getting home is the harder part. Drivers may be scarce when you want to leave, and the price may be higher than on the way up. Open the app a few minutes before you plan to go, and save a taxi number in case no car appears. Anyone who needs an accessible vehicle should phone ahead for both legs of the trip.
