The distance from Ambleside to Horseshoe Bay is 15 km, and the drive takes about 20 minutes. At normal demand a standard rideshare comes to about $29, and the likely range is $25 to $34.
How the rideshare estimate works
Our figures are based on average rates and do not come from Uber. Real upfront pricing lives in the Uber app, so look there before confirming.
Our rate card has a base fare of $2.50, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking fee. Over 15 km the distance part is $17.25, and 20 minutes adds $7.00. Together with the base fare that is $26.75, and the booking fee takes it to about $29. Distance is the biggest piece here, so a longer route than expected would move the price more than a slow one.
Prices rise with demand. At a busy time you might see about $34, at very busy about $42, and at peak about $56. Comfort is about $35, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $41 and Premier is about $62.
Taxi fare for the same trip
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi charge the same posted rates: $3.75 to start and $2.18 for each km. Over 15 km the meter would read about $36. Waiting and extras are left out of that number, so expect the final fare to be somewhat higher. On this trip the rideshare estimate is lower than the metered taxi figure at normal demand, but the gap closes if prices climb.
If you want to phone, Vancouver Taxi is 604-871-1111, Yellow Cab Vancouver is 604-681-1111 and MacLure’s Cabs is 604-831-1111. All three list wheelchair accessible vehicles and app booking.
Tips for a trip to a ferry terminal
Horseshoe Bay sounds like a place where people catch boats, so some riders will be heading for a sailing. If that is you, these points apply to any ride to a ferry terminal:
- Check your sailing time and leave more of a buffer than you think you need.
- Tell the driver how much luggage you have, and ask whether it fits before the car sets off.
- Type the full drop-off address into the app so the driver does not guess.
- Phone ahead to reserve an accessible vehicle.
Prices and wait times can both rise when many people want a car at once, so open the app early. If the first request finds no driver, wait a minute and try again before switching to a taxi. Keep one of the phone numbers above saved so you are not searching for it when time is short.
