The estimate and how we got it
These prices are estimates from average rates. They are not Uber’s own figures, and the Uber app shows the real upfront price before you book.
We use a base fare of $2.50, then add $1.15 per km and $0.35 per minute. A $2 booking fee is added at the end.
Both the distance and the time count toward the total, so a slow trip costs more than a quick one even over the same 20 km. That is why a trip of this length lands well above the minimum fare of $4.43.
When the price goes up
At a busy time (x1.2) expect about $45. When it is very busy (x1.5) the estimate is about $56, and at a peak (x2) it is about $74.
If your plans are flexible, check the app a little later. Prices can ease once the surge passes.
For a larger vehicle, Comfort is about $47 and XL (up to 6 seats) is about $54. Premier is about $83.
Taxi meter
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi use one tariff of $3.75 at flagdown plus $2.18 per km. On 20 km the meter would show about $47.
The final amount may be higher, because the meter figure excludes waiting time and extras. Next to the rideshare estimate, the taxi is dearer at normal demand but close to a busy period price.

Before you leave the shopping centre
Look at the pickup pin in the app and move it if it sits somewhere you cannot reach easily. Send the driver a quick message with the entrance you are standing at.
Allow a little more than 30 minutes if you have a booking at the other end. Peak hours can slow things down.
If you have large bags, a stroller or several shopping bags, ask the driver whether they fit before loading. XL is worth a look if you have a group.
For a wheelchair accessible vehicle, book ahead and confirm the details. Accessible cars are fewer than standard ones, and it is easier to arrange one in advance than to find one at short notice.
