The trip from Surrey Central to White Rock is 22 km, and the drive takes about 30 minutes. A standard rideshare at normal demand costs about $40, with a likely range of $36 to $47.
How the $40 is worked out
These figures are our own estimates from average rideshare rates. They are not prices published by Uber. The Uber app shows the real upfront price once you enter both addresses, so use our number for planning and the app for the final answer.
The calculation starts with a base fare of $2.50, then adds $1.15 per km and $0.35 per minute. For 22 km and 30 minutes that comes to $38.30. A booking fee of $2 goes on top, which brings the total to roughly $40. The regional minimum fare of $4.43 only matters on very short rides, so it plays no part on a trip this long.
Demand changes the result more than anything else. When the area is busy (a 1.2 multiplier), expect about $48. At very busy times (1.5) the estimate is $59, and at peak (2x) it reaches $79. A $40 ride can easily become a $79 ride, so look at the app before you commit.
Bigger vehicles and the taxi meter
If you have a group or several bags, the other ride types are priced as follows at normal demand: Comfort is about $50, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $58, and Premier is about $88. XL costs only $8 more than Comfort, which makes it worth a look for anyone travelling with luggage.
Two taxi companies publish a tariff we could check: Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi. Both charge a flag fee of $3.75 plus $2.18 per km, and for 22 km the meter comes to about $52. That figure leaves out waiting time and any extras, so the final fare can run higher.
Set side by side, the rideshare estimate is lower than the meter at normal and busy demand. Once the app moves to very busy or peak pricing, the taxi meter is the cheaper of the two. Taxi fares follow the tariff and do not rise with demand.
Setting up the White Rock pickup
Open the app a few minutes before you want to leave and look at the pickup pin. Move it if it sits somewhere the driver cannot easily stop. Share the exact street address in the booking notes as well, since a pin on its own can end up a little off.
A 30 minute drive can stretch when roads are busy, so leave extra time if you have a fixed arrival time. If you are carrying large bags, message the driver or book XL so nobody has to guess whether they fit.
Riders who need a wheelchair accessible vehicle should book ahead by phone, because the app may not offer one at short notice. Ask the dispatcher about space and timing when you call.
