How much is an Uber from Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal to Langley? At normal demand a standard ride costs about $77, with a likely range of $69 to $89. Langley is 45 km from the terminal, and the drive lasts about an hour.
How the Langley estimate is built
That figure comes from average rates, so it is a guide and not Uber’s own price. When you enter your addresses, the app gives an upfront price, and that is the one that counts.
The pieces are a $2.50 base fare, $1.15 for each kilometre, $0.35 for each minute and a $2 booking fee. Distance and time are scaled by demand, then the booking fee is added. On a trip this long the regional minimum fare of $4.43 plays no part.
Demand changes the picture a lot on a drive of an hour. At 1.2 times normal it is about $92, at 1.5 times about $115, and at the peak multiplier of 2 it is about $153.
For more space, Comfort costs about $96, XL (up to 6 seats) about $111, and Premier about $171. With a group of five or six, the XL price split between everyone may be easier to accept than two separate cars.
Taxi meter and phone quotes
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi quote a flag fee of $3.75 and $2.18 per km on their published tariffs. For 45 km the meter estimate is about $102 with either company. Anything charged for waiting or extras would come on top.
That is about $25 more than the rideshare at normal demand. If demand doubles, the taxi estimate falls about $51 below the rideshare peak figure, so the order flips.
On a long trip it is also reasonable to phone a company and ask for a quote before you go. Vancouver Taxi (604-871-1111) lists airport rides, cards accepted and wheelchair accessible cars.
Planning a one hour ride
An hour in a car calls for a bit more care than a short hop. Check the pickup spot in the app while you wait at the terminal, and send the driver the exact street address in Langley so there is no guessing at the end.
Allow extra time if you have to be somewhere at a set hour, since peak periods can stretch a trip past the 60 minute estimate. Ask yourself whether your bags will fit, and pick XL if not.
Book a wheelchair accessible vehicle ahead of time instead of counting on one being free. Yellow Cab Vancouver (604-681-1111) and MacLure’s Cabs (604-831-1111) both list them.
