Before you book, open the Uber app and enter both addresses, because it will show the exact upfront price for the ride from Surrey Central to Cloverdale. Our own estimate is about $31 at normal demand, with a likely range of $27 to $36.
Distance and time
Allow roughly 25 minutes for the 15 km.
That is a medium length ride, long enough that demand changes make a visible difference to the fare. A gap of a few dollars between two quotes is normal, and the likely range of $27 to $36 reflects that.
Building the Surrey Central to Cloverdale estimate
These numbers come from average rideshare rates. They are not Uber’s prices.
A base fare of $2.50, $1.15 per km and $0.35 per minute give a subtotal of $28.50 for 15 km and 25 minutes. The $2 booking fee takes it to about $31. The regional minimum fare of $4.43 is not a factor here.
When demand rises, the price follows. Busy (1.2 times) is about $36, very busy (1.5 times) is about $45, and peak (2x) is about $59.
For more space or comfort, Comfort is about $38, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $43, and Premier is about $66 at normal demand.
Taxi meter figures
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi publish the same tariff. The flag fee is $3.75 and the rate is $2.18 per km, so 15 km comes to a meter estimate of about $36.
The meter figure has no waiting charges or extras in it. Add a little margin if you expect to stop on the way.
The taxi estimate is higher than the normal rideshare price by about $5, and it matches the busy rideshare figure. If the app shows very busy or peak pricing, the taxi becomes the cheaper choice.
Planning the pickup
Look at the pickup pin before you confirm, and send the driver your exact address in the notes.
Allow some extra time if you have to be at your destination by a fixed hour. The 25 minutes is an average, and a ride can run longer.
Ask whether your bags will fit before the car arrives. If they will not, XL is the safer pick.
Keep your phone charged and your notifications on, since the driver may message you to confirm where to meet. A missed message can add minutes to the start of a ride and cost you the time you allowed.
If you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, call a taxi company in advance. MacLure’s Cabs and Yellow Cab Vancouver both list wheelchair accessible service.
