What the ride usually costs
A standard rideshare from Pitt Meadows to Maple Ridge costs about $15 at normal demand, and most trips should fall between $13 and $18. The distance is 6 km and the drive takes about 10 minutes.
These numbers are estimates built from average rates. They are not Uber’s own prices, and the Uber app shows the real upfront price when you enter your pickup and drop off.
The rate card we used has a base fare of $2.50, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2 booking fee. Six kilometres adds $6.90, ten minutes adds $3.50, and the booking fee brings the total to about $15.
Short trips also have a floor. The regional minimum fare is $4.43, but a 6 km ride is well above it, so it does not affect this one.
Busy times and larger cars
When demand rises, the fare before the booking fee goes up with it. A busy period gives about $17, very busy about $21, and a peak at double the usual rate about $28.
Because the ride is short, the extra dollars are small compared with a long trip, but they still add up if you travel and return at busy hours.
Comfort for this ride is about $18. XL, which seats up to 6, is about $21, and Premier is about $31. For a group of four or more, XL is usually the better choice than splitting into two cars.
Taxi meter and what to check
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi print the same rates: $3.75 to start and $2.18 for each km. For 6 km the meter would show about $17. Extras and waiting time are charged on top.
So at normal demand the taxi costs about $2 more than the rideshare estimate. At a busy or peak time the two come close, and the taxi can come out cheaper.
On a short hop, a few small habits save the most trouble. Type the full street address into the app instead of dropping a pin near the area. Look at the pickup spot the app suggests and walk to it if the driver cannot reach your door.
Wait inside until the driver is a minute or two away, since a short ride is cancelled and rebooked more easily than a long one but still costs you time. If you carry bags, a stroller or a walker, tell the driver in the app message before they arrive. Anyone who needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle should book one ahead by phone.
