A standard rideshare from YVR Airport to Maple Ridge costs about $83 at normal demand, with a likely range of $74 to $96. The trip is 50 km and takes about 60 minutes.
How the estimate is built
Rate card and demand
This is an estimate from average rates, not Uber’s own price. The rate card is made of a $2.50 base, $1.15 for each km, $0.35 for each minute and a $2.00 fee for booking. For this trip that means $2.50, plus 50 km at $1.15, plus 60 minutes at $0.35, multiplied by the demand level, then the $2.00 fee.
Busy periods push the figure up. At 1.2 times normal you would see about $99, at 1.5 times about $124, and at double about $164. The Uber app shows the real upfront price before you book, so it overrides anything here.
Larger vehicles are dearer. Comfort is about $103, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $119 and Premier is about $184.
Taxi meter
Between them, Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi publish one tariff of $3.75 for the flag and $2.18 per km. For 50 km the meter would reach about $113 with either company. Waiting time and extras are not counted in that figure.
The rideshare estimate is lower than the meter at normal demand and at 1.2 times. Past 1.5 times the app estimate of $124 goes above the meter figure, so a surge can erase the saving.
Our likely range of $74 to $96 reflects small changes in the trip itself, such as a few extra minutes in the car. The distance is fixed, but the time is not, and time is billed. If the app shows a number far outside the range, it usually means demand is unusual at that moment, and waiting briefly before you book may bring it back.
Before and during the ride
This is a long fare, so a little preparation pays off. Look at the pickup spot shown in the app and wait there. Share the full destination address when you book so the driver can plan the trip properly.
If you have more than a couple of suitcases, ask whether they will fit or order XL. Anyone who needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle should book ahead rather than rely on one being close by. Give yourself extra time when you are catching a flight, as a trip of an hour leaves little room for delay.
