Open the Uber app and type in both addresses before you decide anything. The upfront price it shows is the one you will pay, and everything on this page is an estimate to compare it against.
What the ride costs from Fleetwood to Langley
From Fleetwood to Langley you are looking at 12 km and about 20 minutes. A standard rideshare comes to about $25 at normal demand, and the likely range is $22 to $30.
We work that number out from average rates: a base fare of $2.50, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2 booking fee. Distance and time are added to the base fare, demand scales that sum, and the booking fee goes on last. None of these numbers come from Uber, which prices each ride itself.
Demand moves the total quickly. When things are busy (a 1.2 multiplier) expect about $30. When they are very busy (1.5) it is closer to $37, and at peak (2.0) it reaches about $49. The app will show the higher figure before you confirm.
Bigger vehicles cost more at normal demand: Comfort is about $31, XL with up to 6 seats is about $36, and Premier is about $54. XL is the one to look at if you have a group or a lot of bags.
Taxi, and how to book the ride
At Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi the meter opens at $3.75 and runs $2.18 per km after that. On 12 km the meter would come to about $30 with either company. That figure leaves out waiting time and any extras, so the final fare can run a little higher.
On this route the taxi and the rideshare at normal demand are separated by roughly $5. At busy times the gap closes, and at peak the taxi is often the cheaper of the two.
Before you request a car
Send the exact pickup address, with a unit or entrance if there is one, so the driver does not have to guess. Check that the pin in the app sits where you will be standing. If you are carrying anything large, ask the driver by message whether it fits before they arrive.
If you need extra room or access
Choose XL for six passengers or more luggage than a regular car takes. If someone in your group uses a wheelchair, book an accessible vehicle ahead of time by phone rather than hoping one is free when you request. Allow a few extra minutes at rush hour, since the 20 minute drive time is an average and not a promise.
