The drive from Deep Cove to Downtown Vancouver takes about 30 minutes for 20 km, and a standard rideshare is about $38 at normal demand, with a likely range of $34 to $44.
What a rideshare from Deep Cove costs
Our number comes from average rates, not from Uber itself, so the app may show something a little different. The inputs were a base fare of $2.50, then $1.15 for each km, $0.35 for each minute and a $2 booking fee. Add those up for 20 km and 30 minutes and you reach $38.
Demand changes the total. With a 1.2 multiplier the fare is about $45. At 1.5 it is about $56, and when demand doubles it is about $74. The upfront price in the Uber app is final once you accept it, which makes it the figure to trust.
Other ride types sit higher. Step up to Comfort and it is around $47; XL (up to 6 seats) is near $54 and Premier near $83.
Taxi and the practical side
Meter cost from Deep Cove
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi publish the same tariff: $3.75 to start and $2.18 per km. For 20 km that gives a meter of about $47, which is about $9 more than the rideshare estimate. Waiting time and extras are not counted in it.
If you would rather deal with a dispatcher, Yellow Cab Vancouver (604-681-1111) and Vancouver Taxi (604-871-1111) both take app bookings and card payments and list wheelchair accessible cars. Ask for a price when you call.
Making the trip go smoothly
Half an hour is a fair stretch in a car, so decide in advance who is sitting where and where the bags go. Ask the driver about space before you load up if you have a suitcase, a bike or a pram.
When you leave in the morning or late in the afternoon, expect the app price to run above normal and the drive to take longer than the estimate. A few spare minutes helps if you have a meeting or an appointment at the other end.
Share the exact address with the driver. A neighbourhood name on its own can leave a car circling, and you pay for that time.
Both the rideshare and the taxi figures here are for one standard car. If you are travelling with three or more adults and luggage, compare the XL price with the meter, since the larger car can come out ahead once you split the cost between everyone.
Last, check that the driver is on the way before you step outside. The app shows the car moving, and waiting indoors until it is close saves time for both of you.
