Demand can lift the total. Busy, at 1.2 times, is about $15. Very busy, at 1.5 times, is about $18. Peak demand, at 2 times, is about $23. On a short trip those extra dollars are small, but they still add up if you ride often.
Larger vehicles and taxi
Comfort is about $15 for this trip, XL (up to 6 seats) about $17 and Premier about $26.
A taxi on the published tariff is slightly cheaper at normal demand. Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi both charge a $3.75 flag fee plus $2.18 per km, which gives a meter estimate of about $12 for 4 km. Waiting and extras would be added to that meter figure.
Practical tips for a mall trip
Richmond Centre is a shopping destination, so you may be carrying bags on the way back. A few habits make the ride smoother.
- Check where the pin sits in the app and share the exact pickup address.
- Tell the driver if you have bulky shopping or a stroller, so the car fits it.
- Request a car a little before you finish, since a short trip can still involve a wait.
- Book a wheelchair accessible vehicle by phone, for example Vancouver Taxi on 604-871-1111.
For a ride this short, the fare is mostly the base amount and the booking fee, so a different driver or a slightly different time changes little.
Both taxi companies named above publish the same rates, so choosing between them comes down to who can reach you first, and that is worth a quick check. If you prefer to book by phone, Yellow Cab Vancouver (604-681-1111) lists app booking and card payment, and Coastal Rides (604-330-7433) lists itself as a rideshare app.
