Before you book, open the Uber app and read the upfront price for your exact pickup and drop off. That is the number that counts, and our estimate is only a guide: about $39 for a standard rideshare at normal demand, with a likely range of $34 to $45. The trip is 22 km and takes about 25 minutes.
How we arrived at $39 for 22 km
We calculate the figure from average rideshare rates, so it is not an Uber price. Behind the number sit a $2.50 base fare, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking fee.
Twenty two km and 25 minutes bring the ride charge to about $37, and the booking fee makes it roughly $39. Distance is what drives this fare, since the per km charge is the biggest part of it.
Demand can move the total a lot on a trip of this length. A busy period puts it near $46. A very busy one takes it to about $57, and at peak, when the multiplier is 2, it reaches about $75.
Because the fare is large to begin with, a surge is felt more here than on a short hop. If your timing is flexible, check the app twice, a few minutes apart.
Larger vehicles
Comfort is about $48, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $55 and Premier is about $84. With a group of four to six, one XL is often better value than two standard cars at the same moment, and everyone arrives together.
Taxi meter and advice for a longer shopping trip
We have published tariffs for this area. Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi charge a $3.75 flag fee and $2.18 per km, so 22 km would show about $52 on the meter. Anything for waiting or extras comes on top, so the final amount can be higher.
That is roughly $13 above the standard rideshare at normal demand. At peak, though, the metered fare comes out well below the app, since the tariff does not respond to demand.
Shopping centres are big, and a car can only stop in certain places. Check the pickup pin, move it if it is wrong and message the driver the exact address or entrance.
For a trip this long, ask about luggage or large purchases before the driver sets off. If you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, phone a taxi company and book ahead. Allow extra time on busy evenings and weekends, because waiting for a car adds to the 25 minutes of driving.
