Thirty kilometres separate Langford from Victoria Airport (YYJ), and the drive takes about 40 minutes. A standard rideshare for that distance costs about $53 at normal demand, with a likely range of $47 to $61.
How we got to $53
The estimate comes from average Canadian rideshare rates. There is a $2.50 base fare, $1.15 for every kilometre, $0.35 for every minute and a $2 booking fee. Thirty kilometres and 40 minutes add up to $51 before the booking fee, and $53 with it.
When the app is busy, expect about $63. Very busy brings it to about $79, and a peak, with the fare doubled, to about $104. These numbers come from average rates that we applied ourselves, and they differ from Uber’s real pricing. Whatever we show, the number in the Uber app is the one that counts, so look at it before confirming.
Larger vehicles are an option if you are flying with bags. Comfort is about $66, XL (up to 6 seats) is about $76 and Premier is about $117. XL costs $23 more than the standard ride here, which can be worth it for a family or a pile of luggage.
Taxi and airport tips
No published taxi tariff turned up for this area that we could verify, so a meter figure is off the table. Call for a quote. Victoria Taxi (250-383-7111) lists airport rides and app booking, while Yellow Cab of Victoria (250-381-2222) lists airport rides and wheelchair accessible vehicles. Uptown Taxi is on 250-886-6066. Meter estimates leave out waiting time and extras.
For a trip to an airport, leave earlier than you think you need to. A ride that usually takes 40 minutes can run longer at busy hours, and a surge in demand can also mean a longer wait for a driver. Order the car well ahead of your check-in time.
Tell the driver how many bags you have when you book, or message once they accept. Give the exact pickup address and confirm the pin position on the map. If you need an accessible vehicle, book it ahead of the day you travel.
When you are coming the other way, the same price logic holds, though the price you see in the app at arrival may differ from the estimate here.
The gap between normal and peak pricing is large on a ride this long: $53 against $104. If your flight time is fixed and you cannot wait for demand to ease, it is worth phoning a taxi company for a quote as well, so you can compare two real numbers before you decide.
