A standard rideshare from Ladner to Tsawwassen costs about $23 at normal demand, and the usual range is $20 to $27. Ladner to Tsawwassen is 10 km and about 20 minutes of driving.
What the fare is made of
These numbers are estimates based on average rideshare rates. They are not Uber’s own prices, and the Uber app will show the actual upfront price when you request a car.
The rate card we use has a $2.50 base fare, $1.15 for each km, $0.35 for each minute and a $2 booking fee. Over 10 km and 20 minutes that is $2.50, plus $11.50 for distance, plus $7 for time, a subtotal of $21. The $2 booking fee brings it to $23.
Busy periods push the figure up. At a 1.2 multiplier you would see about $27. At 1.5, which is very busy, the estimate is about $34, and at a 2x peak it is about $44. Because the multiplier works on the fare and not on the booking fee, the jump is a little smaller than a straight doubling.
Choosing a car and a taxi
The ride type you pick changes the price as much as the hour does, so it helps to look at all of them before you confirm.
Other rideshare options
Comfort is about $28 for this trip. Premier comes to about $49, while XL, with room for up to 6, is about $32. If you are travelling with luggage or a group, XL is the one to compare against two separate standard cars.
Taxi on the meter
Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi publish the same figures: $3.75 flag fee, $2.18 per km. On 10 km that gives a meter estimate of about $26. The figure does not include waiting time or extras, so treat it as a floor and not a quote. A standard rideshare at normal demand is about $3 cheaper, but the gap closes quickly once demand rises, and the meter does not change with demand.
Smaller centres sometimes have fewer drivers online than a big city does. Before you plan around a rideshare, open the app a little ahead of time and see whether cars show up near your pickup point and how long the wait is. If none appear, phoning a taxi company is the safer fallback.
Give the driver the exact pickup address, and say if you will be waiting at the curb or inside. If you have bags, say so when you book. Anyone who needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle should arrange it in advance by phone, since those cars are limited and are hard to find on short notice.
