Rideshare is the only fare we can put a number on for this trip, because we found no published taxi tariff for the Kamloops area to set beside it. A standard ride from Kamloops Airport (YKA) to Downtown Kamloops is about $21 at normal demand. The distance is 10 km and the drive takes about 15 minutes. Most trips should land between $19 and $25.
How the $21 is worked out
We start from average rideshare rates: a base fare of $2.50, $1.15 per km and $0.35 per minute. Ten kilometres and fifteen minutes add up to about $19.25 before anything else. A booking fee of $2 goes on top, which gives roughly $21.
Uber does not publish its prices, so what you see here is our estimate from average rates. The Uber app shows the real upfront price once you enter both addresses, and that figure is the one you pay. Treat ours as a way to know what to expect before you open the app.
Demand moves the number. When the app is busy, the fare is multiplied by 1.2 and the trip comes to about $25. At very busy times the multiplier is 1.5 and the price is about $31. At a peak, with the multiplier at 2, expect about $41. A flight landing at the same time as many others can push demand up, so the price you see may differ from the one you saw an hour earlier.
Bigger vehicles and the taxi option
If you have more luggage or more people, the other ride types cost more on this route. Comfort is about $26, XL (which seats up to 6) is about $30 and Premier is about $45.
For a taxi, we have no published tariff we could check for this area, so we cannot give you a meter estimate. Phone a local cab company and ask for a quote on the 10 km run before you get in. Ask whether waiting time or extras are charged on top, because a meter does not usually include them.
Meeting your driver at Kamloops Airport
Open the app while you are still collecting your bags, so the driver is already on the way when you walk out. Check the pickup spot the app suggests and confirm it matches where you are standing. If the driver cannot find you, a message with the exact door or sign near you usually sorts it out.
Smaller airports can have fewer drivers online than a big city, so a wait of a few minutes is possible. If you are travelling with a wheelchair, a large bag or sports gear, ask the driver by message whether it fits before they arrive, or book a bigger vehicle. If you need an accessible vehicle, arrange it ahead of your flight rather than on arrival.
With the destination only 15 minutes away, you can set the drop-off address to a specific street corner in advance and save a conversation in the car.
