How much is an Uber from Downtown Vancouver to Coquitlam Centre? At normal demand, about $55. The trip is 30 km and takes around 45 minutes, and the likely range is $49 to $63.
How the estimate is calculated
We use average rideshare rates: $2.50 base fare, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking fee. Thirty kilometres adds $34.50, and 45 minutes adds $15.75. With the base fare that is $52.75 before the booking fee.
Once the $2.00 fee is added you land at roughly $55.
These numbers come from average rates and are not Uber’s own prices. Open the Uber app to see the actual upfront price for your pickup time.
Busy times and bigger cars
Demand changes the price quickly. In a busy period (1.2 times normal) the fare is about $65. When it is very busy (1.5 times) expect about $81. At a peak (2 times) it can climb to around $108.
Bigger vehicles have their own prices at normal demand. Comfort is about $68. XL (up to 6 seats) is about $78. Premier is about $121.
The XL price is only about $23 above a standard ride, which can work out well when a few people split the fare.
Taxi meter to Coquitlam Centre
Two companies serving the area publish tariffs. Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi both use a flag fee of $3.75 plus $2.18 per km. For 30 km the meter estimate is about $69.
That estimate does not include waiting time or extras, so treat it as a floor rather than a final number. At normal demand the rideshare is about $14 cheaper, but at the very busy price of $81 the two are much closer.
Before you head out
Coquitlam Centre is a shopping destination by name, so you may be carrying bags on the way back, and a full boot can change which car you need. Ask the driver whether your purchases will fit, and choose XL if you expect a lot of them. Type the full address into the app rather than only the name of the place, and check the pickup spot on the map before the car arrives.
If you need an accessible vehicle, book it by phone ahead of time. Allow extra time at busy hours, since a 45 minute trip can stretch and the price may rise just as you are ready to leave.
