The distance from Brentwood to New Westminster is 10 km, and the drive takes about 20 minutes. At normal demand a standard rideshare for that trip costs about $23, with a likely range of $20 to $27.
Where the $23 comes from
We worked this out from average rideshare rates, so treat it as an estimate and not as an Uber price. The rates are a $2.50 base fare, $1.15 per km, $0.35 per minute and a $2.00 booking fee. Ten km and 20 minutes make a ride charge of about $21, and the booking fee takes it to roughly $23.
When you open the Uber app and enter both addresses, it shows the actual upfront price. That number is the one you will pay, whatever our estimate says.
Demand can shift the fare a lot. At busy times we would expect about $27, at very busy times about $34, and at peak, when the multiplier reaches 2, about $44. A trip between two shopping centres tends to attract more riders on days when people are out spending, so check the price before you commit.
Larger and higher grade vehicles are priced above the standard ride. Comfort is about $28, XL (up to 6 seats) about $32 and Premier about $49. If four or five of you are going, a single XL can cost less per person than two standard cars.
What the meter reads over 10 km
Published tariffs exist for this area, so the taxi side is easy to estimate. Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi each use a $3.75 flag fee and $2.18 for each km. Over 10 km the meter would show about $26.
That total has no waiting time or extras in it. If the car sits in traffic or you ask for a stop on the way, the meter runs higher. At normal demand the rideshare is cheaper by around $3, though at peak pricing the taxi wins by a wide margin.
Tips for this trip
Shopping centres are large places, and the spot where you want to be picked up may not be the spot the app suggests. Look at the map pin before you request, drag it if needed, and send the driver a short message with the exact door or address.
Plan for the car to take a few minutes to reach you. Add that wait to the 20 minutes of driving, especially if you have a reservation or an appointment at the other end.
If you have mobility needs, book an accessible vehicle ahead of time instead of requesting one on the spot. Phone the taxi company and ask what they can send. If you have luggage or large purchases, ask whether it fits before the driver arrives.
