A Grab taxi is a ride you book through the Grab app, which matches you with a nearby driver. You set a pickup point and a destination, see a fare estimate, and track the driver on the way. Check that the service is available in your area before you rely on it.
How booking works
Open the app and set your pickup point. It detects your location, and you can adjust it for accuracy. Enter your destination to see the estimated fare and the ride options. Tap the booking button, and the app matches you with a driver and shows their details and estimated arrival time. You can track the trip and the route in real time and contact the driver if needed. Wait times are often shorter than at a taxi queue.
Ride options can include standard, premium and carpooling, and you can schedule rides for later. Other features include saved locations, promotional offers, several languages, GPS navigation and a trip history for tracking expenses.
Paying for the ride
Payment is mostly cashless. Link a credit card, debit card or digital wallet in the app, and add promo codes before you confirm. When the trip ends, the fare is charged to your linked account and a receipt is emailed to you. Some descriptions also list Apple Pay and cash as options. Some drivers may take cash, but confirm that before the trip.
Rider safety
- Check that the driver and vehicle match the details in the app before you get in.
- Sit in the back seat and wear your seat belt.
- Share your trip with trusted contacts through the app.
- Use the in-app emergency button if you feel uncomfortable, or contact Grab support.
- Do not share personal contact information with the driver.
- Rate the driver afterwards and report any concerns in the app.
