The easiest way from Campbell River to Elk Falls Provincial Park is by car or taxi. The day use area is just off Highway 28 toward Gold River, only a few kilometres from town.
Highway 28 to the day use area
BC Parks places the Elk Falls day use areas off Highway 28, about 3 km west of Quinsam Campground, which itself sits roughly 3 km north of Campbell River. Another local guide describes the turn as Brewster Lake Road, with parking in the day use area. Set the navigation to the park’s day use area rather than the campground, since the two are separate.
From the parking area a trail leads to the suspension bridge, which gives a view over the canyon and the falls, which drop about 25 metres. Parking can fill on busy summer weekends, so arrive early and use official lots only.
Getting there without a car
No direct public bus to the park could be confirmed, so the BC Transit trip planner is the place to check whether any service runs along Highway 28 today. Most visitors without a vehicle take a taxi. Since the ride is short, ask the driver about a return pickup time, because passing cabs are unlikely on the park road. The Campbell River taxi page lists local service, and the taxi fare estimator gives a rough fare for the run.
Coming from Vancouver
Sail with BC Ferries from the mainland to Vancouver Island and then continue north by road to Campbell River. Check the BC Ferries sailing schedule and any bus or shuttle operator you plan to use, since times change by season.
Timing and trail conditions
Weekday mornings are the quietest. Trails near the falls can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with grip and bring water. The paved parking has stalls for people with mobility challenges, and the pit toilets and most picnic tables are wheelchair accessible. For trail accessibility, closures and current park conditions, read the Elk Falls page on the BC Parks website before you go.
