Rideshare usually comes out cheaper than a taxi on this trip: about $47 for a standard ride, against a taxi meter estimate of around $58. The drive from YVR Airport to Dundarave (West Vancouver) is 25 km and takes about 40 minutes.
What the ride should cost
At normal demand, expect roughly $47. Most fares should land between $42 and $55.
These numbers are estimates built from average rates, not Uber’s own prices. Uber’s app gives the actual upfront price before you confirm, so use our number only for budgeting.
How the fare is worked out
We start with a base fare of $2.50, add $1.15 for each kilometre and $0.35 for each minute, then multiply by a demand factor and add a $2 booking fee. The fare never drops below the regional minimum of $4.43, though a trip this long is nowhere near it.
Demand moves the total quickly. When it is busy (a 1.2 multiplier), the same ride is about $56. When it is very busy (1.5), expect about $70. At peak (2.0), the price reaches about $93.
If you can wait a few minutes and check the app again, the price sometimes eases.
Bigger vehicles and taxis
Comfort is about $59 at normal demand. XL, which seats up to 6, is about $68. Premier is about $104. If you have several bags or a group, XL may be the simplest choice.
For a taxi, Whalley Taxi and Royal City Taxi both publish a tariff of $3.75 flag fee plus $2.18 per km. On 25 km that gives a meter estimate of about $58. Waiting time and extras are not included, so the final amount can be higher.
Meeting your driver and getting to Dundarave
Open the app while you are still inside and read the pickup instructions for the airport. Drivers can be hard to find at a large airport, so message them if the map pin looks unclear.
Type the full street address for Dundarave rather than only the neighbourhood name, and add a unit or gate number if there is one. Allow extra time if your trip falls in a busy period, because both the fare and the wait can rise together.
If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, book an accessible vehicle ahead rather than hoping one is free on the spot. Ask the driver whether your luggage fits before loading it, particularly with a standard car.
