To use a 50% off Uber offer, add the promo code in the app before you request the ride, then check that the discount shows on the fare estimate. Every offer has its own terms, so the details of the specific deal decide when and where it works.
Adding a promo code
In the Uber app, open the Account tab and tap Wallet. Scroll to the Promotions section and choose Add promo code, then type the code with no spaces and tap Add. The offer should then appear in your promotions list, and it is applied to a later trip that meets its conditions.
Do this before you book. A code added after the ride has been requested may not apply to that trip.
Read the terms of the offer
Promo terms vary from one offer to the next. Uber’s published terms for some promotions say they are for first-time riders only, that they cannot be combined with other promotions, and that they expire a set time after you add the code. Availability can also be limited to selected users. Because of this, check the fine print for the offer you were given, especially:
- who can use it, for example new riders only or selected accounts
- the expiry date of the offer, and how long it lasts once added
- whether it applies to one trip or several
- any cap on how much the discount can take off a single fare
- the ride types or areas where it works
Getting more from a discount
A percentage discount saves the most on a higher fare, so a long ride like an airport transfer may benefit more than a short hop across town. If the offer has a cap, it is worth checking whether the cap makes a long ride or a short one the better use.
Compare prices before you book. Fares in the app change with demand, and a discount on a busy-time price may cost more than the regular price at a quieter time. The estimate in the app shows what you will pay with the offer applied, so you can look at a few options and pick the cheapest. You can run a rough comparison first with the Uber fare calculator.
If the discount does not show up
Go back to Wallet and confirm the promotion is listed and has not expired. Then check the ride type, since some offers do not cover every option. If the code is rejected, the likely reasons are an expired offer, an account that already used it or an account that is not eligible. Uber support in the app can explain why a specific code failed.
Where offers come from
Promo codes arrive through Uber emails, in-app messages and partner campaigns. Only use codes from sources you trust, and enter them in the Wallet screen of the app. Be careful with sites that promise large discounts for a fee or ask for your login details, since a genuine Uber code never needs your password.
