Lyft Canada is the Canadian arm of the Lyft ride-hailing app, which connects riders with local drivers who use their own vehicles. In Vancouver you download the app, create an account and request a ride. Payment is cashless and goes through the app, with a fare estimate shown before you book.
The app shows driver details, estimated arrival times and live updates. It also offers scheduled rides, shared rides at a lower cost, a driver rating after each trip, trip sharing with friends or family, and in-app support.
Lyft Canada works for daily commutes and for exploring Vancouver’s neighbourhoods. The interface covers every step from registration to the end of the ride.
Signing up and booking a ride
Download the Lyft app from the App Store or Google Play and register with your email address or phone number. You give your name, a Canadian phone number and payment details. The app then asks for your preferred language and notification settings.
The app has real-time tracking of available vehicles in Vancouver or other Canadian cities, fare estimates and trip history. Type in your pickup location, or let the app find you by GPS, then enter your destination to see a fare estimate. Tap the Book button, and the app searches for nearby drivers and shows their arrival times. Once you confirm, follow the ride on the live map. You can see driver and vehicle details and contact the driver through the app if anything changes.
Payment, fares and support
You can pay with a credit or debit card, or from the Lyft app wallet. Add your bank cards in the app before your first ride.
How fares are worked out
Fares are based on distance, time and current demand. The fare estimator in the Vancouver region gives a quote before each ride. Prices can rise in busy periods or during special events, but the app shows the final fare before you confirm.
Getting help
Use the Help section in the app. Email support is available for urgent matters. Support handles fare disputes, driver concerns and payment problems, and the FAQ answers common questions.
